FOUR of Shetland’s most beautiful beaches will go under the spotlight at the Scottish Beach Conference, organised by Keep Scotland Beautiful.

Representatives from Shetland Islands Council and the community councils in Yell, Fetlar and Dunrossness, have all been invited to St Andrews on 15 September.

They will be giving a workshop for other local authorities on the success of the islands’ Seaside Awards, which so far have been presented to the Sands of Breckon, on Yell; Tresta Sands, on Fetlar; West Voe Sands, at Virkie; and St Ninian’s Isle tombolo, by Bigton.

Shetland is the first Scottish island group to introduce the awards and the only one in which the local authority works hand in hand with community councils to administer them.
