SHETLAND’S largest salmon farming and processing company Grieg Seafood Hjaltland has bought Collafirth Salmon Limited.

The deal for three sea sites on the east of the isles’ was completed through Grieg’s subsidiary company Hjaltland Seafarms.

This acquisition is expected to increase the company’s harvesting production to about 21,000 tonnes by 2011, but this year it will remain at 16,000 tonnes.

Managing director of Grieg Seafood Hjaltland Michael Stark said: “The additional farm sites will strengthen Hjaltland’s market position as the leading producer of high quality sustainable salmon from Shetland.

“The latest acquisition will improve our bio security further as we have become the only salmon farming operator within this area.”
