THE CONSOLIDATION process in the Norwegian seafood sector continues with the announcement by Austevoll Seafood ASA that the company has acquired the majority shareholding in Leroy Seafood Group and aims to also purchase the remaining shares.

The move sees one of the largest pelagic fishery specialists buying in big style to the salmon farming industry.

Both companies have major stakes in the Shetland seafood industries.

Austevoll is a 25 per cent shareholder of Shetland Catch, Europe’s largest pelagic fish processor.

Scottish Sea Farms, which farms salmon in many sites off Shetland and operates the Scalloway salmon processing plant, is 50 per cent owned by Leroy Seafood Group.
